Template:IPSite

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

[{{{url}}} {{{title}}}]. InsidePOOLMag.com. Spheragon Publishing. Retrieved on 2008-06-13.

[edit] Purpose

This template is for creating a properly-formatted reference citation to non-magazine features at InsidePOOLMag.com, frequently cited in cue sports articles (see WikiProject Cue sports for more information). It is almost always used inside <ref name="IPSite YYYY-MM-DD"></ref> (with the date). The benefit of the template is that it automatically provides the publisher, location, and work parameters of {{Cite web}} for you.

This template is not for citations to the printed InsidePOOL Magazine; use {{IPMag}} for that. It is also not for citations to the forum or blog features on that site, which are not reliable sources.

[edit] Usage

{{IPSite
|title=
|month=
|year=
|date=
|url=
|pages=
|first=
|last=
|accessdate=
}}

Template:Cite web parameters not shown above are not supported by this template; this template uses the same relevant parameter names as {{Cite web}}.

The title and url parameters are required. Also, a date is required, either with year if only a year is known, with month (use spelled-out month name) and year if a month and year are known, or with date (in YYYY-MM-DD format) if a full date is known. Do not wikilink any dates.

If accessdate (YYYY-MM-DD, not wikilinked) is not specified, today's date will be used.

The pages field is for the section name of the feature followed by the word "section", e.g. "Billiard News section", "Tournaments section", "Industry News section", etc., in the site's left menu, or section names that appear above articles or lists of articles. Note: Some articles on this site appear in sections that have clear section names at the top of them, such as "Pool Tour News", while others do not, especially if accessed from the "Billiard News" portal near the top of the site's left menu. In those cases, simply use "Billiard News section" as the section (pages) name, unless something more specific is evident in the URL (e.g. .../pool-leagues/bca-pool-leagues/... = title=BCA Pool Leagues section. These section names are important, because not only do they provide the reader some reference material context, they much more importantly provide a hint for later editors on where to find the article if and almost inevitably when the site undergoes some kind of a restructuring that makes old URLs invalid.

If the cited item is a regular feature (such as a mini-column, without a specific title for that day's item), use the feature's name as the title, e.g. title=Events Calendar instead of using it for pages, because a title is required by the template.

If the feature has no by-line, simply omit the first and last parameters. This template does not use the name parameter; use first and last indicate the author.

This template cannot be subst'd, unless this is done before it is put inside <ref...></ref> (due to a bug in the <ref> and <references /> system). There is no particular reason to subst it anyway.

[edit] Example

In this case, as is common on that site, no author by-line was given, so the first and last parameters are omitted. Article text.<ref name="IPSite 2007-10-12">{{IPSite|title=Bobby McGrath Wins 2007 International Speed Pool Championship|date=2007-10-12|pages=Pool Tour News section|url= http://www.insidepoolmag.com/billiard-tour-news/pool-tour-news/bobby-mcgrath-wins-2007-international-speed-pool-championship-200710125541.html }}</ref>
