[edit] DO NOT DO ANYTHING TO THIS ARTICLE UNTIL THE MATTER IS DISCUSSED

No further commentary necessary, IMO. Butterfly0fdoom 08:33, 6 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Why is this a separate article?

Read the title of this sub-section. --User:Butterfly0fdoom Saturday, 2007-03-17 T 21:55 UTC

[edit] History and models

Is an item "available" if it is discontinued? (re "Three models are available, one of which is discontinued:")

is the 60GB model still made? if not, maybe change "discontinued" with "no longer manufactured"?

what do you think? (hey, also the image shows the older 60GB model with the older earphones, update?) 85.154.31.243 19:50, 11 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Weight

What is the official weight of this ipod? Where can we find that and add it to the specifications?

[edit] What we should do

If the iPod video materialises at today's Apple conference, then I'll have a good go at ripping this page up and popping something nice in it's place, or adding to the iPod page.

If the iPod video's all speculation and fails to materialise, then I'll AFD it.

Here's hoping for the former! Conferecne starts 10am PT (-7 GMT), so people should check then!

[edit] Where are the facts?

This article isn't based on any hard facts or links or ANYTHING. Even the rumour mills are confused. Not really suitable for Wikipedia. Come back in an hour :P

Now redirects to the 5th generation section of the main iPod article.

came back after about 2 months, now looks more suitable. --Oscarthecat 23:49, 11 December 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Facts

6G iPod paragram is pure speculation really. EAi 21:09, 25 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Update?

"The fifth generation iPod was updated on September 12, 2006. This update included a brighter screen, a search feature, gapless playback, new earphones, addition of games, and longer battery life when playing videos. An 80 GB model also replaced the 60 GB model, while retaining the same dimensions as its predecessor."

Is it just me or is does this mislead the reader completely? Some of the above features require the updated "5.5G" iPod and others such as games and gapless playback are accesible on the original 5G.

Opinions? --Connor oc 16:07, 2 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] ipod

hi, i am looking to buy a 5.5g iPod video.

i would like the white 30gb model.

could someone please tell me a bit about the product?

If you want information about a product, Wikipedia is not the appropriate place to go. Run a google search, and next time sign your posts. 69.242.137.112 00:26, 13 April 2007 (UTC)

[edit] iPod Video or Fifth Generation iPod (emerging revert war)

It is necessary to acknowledge that "iPod Video" is not the correct name of the product. If you go to Apple's website, you will find no reference to it as "iPod Video". When the fourth generation iPod with colour display was released, it had the name "iPod Photo". Around a year later apple merged the two product lines and replaced the black-and-white models with the iPod Photo. At that point it ceased to be called the "iPod Photo".

The only reason it was called iPod Photo was to differentiate it from the regular iPod at the time. As only one major type of fifth generation iPod now exists, apple didn't need to call it "iPod Video". People just assume that's what it's called. If a video capable iPod had been released alongside a non video capable one, then they might have called it "iPod Video".

Therefore, although we can acknowledge that it is commonly referred to as iPod Video, we still have to explain that it isn't the correct name of the product. Shaw, Stephen 18:53, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

It's not incorrect, it's just unofficially called that... BY EVERYBODY all the accessories are listed as "iPod Video or G5 compatable" does it REALLY matter that much? 80.229.169.189 21:28, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

There's no need to say that it is (incorrectly) commonly called iPod Video. If that is what it's commonly called, then that's what it is commonly called. It doesn't matter whether that it correct or not. --Son 21:33, 16 July 2007 (UTC)

I changed it to something I hope will be some kind of compromise between the two arguments. Have a look and see what you think Shaw, Stephen 09:18, 20 July 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Screen

Is this screen LCD or a Plasma Screen ? Looks like a Plasma to me. Yourdeadin 06:51, 1 August 2007 (UTC)Yourdeadin

It is LCD, see Amazon.co.uk's technical details.[1] -- Chris as I am Chris 10:09, 1 August 2007 (UTC)
Have you ever heard of a 2.5 inch plasma screen? By the way, this page is designed to provide a place to talk about the article "IPod (5G)"; not the productShaw, Stephen 12:32, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] WIFI iPod

I just added details of the new Wifi iPod 80.229.169.189 09:11, 16 August 2007 (UTC)

"Details" of a "WiFi iPod" should not be added until there is sufficient proof that such a product exists. The only third party able to supply this proof is Apple. An unofficial magazine article is not proof. Until its official announcement by Apple, it's a rumour. Also, the article about the fifth generation iPod is not the right place to post details about a supposed new model of the iPod.Shaw, Stephen 12:30, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

How it is an unofficial magazine? they have a picture and all the details, just leave it in and stop being so PC 83.100.208.204 19:27, 21 August 2007 (UTC)

In this context, an unofficial magazine is one which is not published by Apple Inc. The picture and "details" mean nothing unless they were announced by Apple, in which case same would be on their website. Also, as I have previously mentioned, this article is entitled "IPod (5G)". It is therefore not the correct place to write about this supposed "WiFi iPod", whether it exists or not. Shaw, Stephen 14:42, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Pre sept 2006 60gb or 80gb ipod?

so pre sept 2006 were the 80gb models available??

No, they weren't available Shaw, Stephen 14:49, 24 August 2007 (UTC)

What happend to the criticism about battery life ?
