iPod shuffle Database Builder is a program created in Python that allows the user to be able to add music to their iPod shuffle without using iTunes. (Initial setup of the iPod shuffle will require iTunes, but an activated iPod_Control folder is provided on the homepage.) In fact, it only works on iPod shuffle; a program for the other iPods is in development.
This program rebuilds the iPod shuffle's databases based on the actual content of the iPod's file system, without restrictions regarding the directory structure. Due to the simple structure of the Shuffle (compared to the other digital audio players), it is possible to use the player almost like any other USB-flash MP3 player by simply dragging and dropping MP3 files onto the Shuffle and running the program.
