[edit] User name
Hello, and welcome to Wikipedia!
I hope not to seem unfriendly or make you feel unwelcome, but I noticed your username, and I am concerned that it might not meet Wikipedia's username policy for the following reason: confusion with the IP address 67.161.166.20. After you look over that policy, could we discuss that concern here?
I'd appreciate learning your own views, for instance your reasons for wanting this particular name, and what alternative username you might accept that avoids raising this concern.
You have several options freely available to you:
- If you can relieve my concern through discussing it here, I can stop worrying about it.
- If the two of us can't agree here, we can ask for help through Wikipedia's dispute resolution process, such as requesting comments from other Wikipedians. Wikipedia administrators usually abide by agreements reached through this process.
- You can keep your contributions history under a new username. Visit Wikipedia:Changing username and follow the guidelines there.
Thank you. --Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 23:25, 3 February 2008 (UTC)
Philip, it's a joke. I AM IP 67.161.166.20. My IP address doesn't change for some reason, so I never bothered to create a named account. Some people objected to dealing with an IP, so I created an (almost) identical name (which I have used once - by accident) but am prepared to whip out on brief notice to provide some discomfiture and comic relief.
No need for anything formal, If you want me to change, I'll bend just to be reasonable.
PS I have a third account (created on whim and used about twice) aaaronsmith.67.161.166.20 (talk) 02:49, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
- It would be much better to use user:aaaronsmith or any other handle you fancy than an IP address. As an IP address your opinion is not noted in AfDs WP:RMs etc. It is often assumed by editors with a handle that IP addresses are used by people passing through the project with no long term commitment to the content of specific pages, your opinions are likely to be taken more seriously by more editors if you use a handle. --Philip Baird Shearer (talk) 09:26, 4 February 2008 (UTC)
