Talk:Iowa Alliance for Reformation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
For some reason this article is being flagged for deletion based on being an ad. Given the research and history provided of the Iowa Band which is now "Iowa Alliance for Reformation" I fail to see how this could be construed as an advert. Links for "The Iowa Band" already existed, but that group is now something else which is reflected in this article. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robpricer (talk • contribs) 14:28, March 10, 2008
- The tone is highly inappropriate for an encyclopedia. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 19:31, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Tone
Respectfully, not all people write like robots with no interest in a subject at all. A complaint on the "tone" does not diminish in any way the importance of the content of the article at all nor the rich lengthy history of the "Iowa Band" which is now transformed into the "Iowa Alliance for Reformation". —Preceding unsigned comment added by Robpricer (talk • contribs) 19:42, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

- This is an online reference source, not a collection of opinionated essays. Wikipedia's neutral point-of-view policy is strict about that. - CobaltBlueTony™ talk 19:48, 10 March 2008 (UTC)

I am Pentecostal but the tone definitely doesn't seem appropriate for an encyclopedia. There are ways to show the organizations committment to God without completely disregarding NPOV. If no one objects I could edit it for the most obvious flaws.Ltwin (talk) 17:29, 28 March 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Deletion policy
To respect the rule of the policy, the following is added to the article:
Per the deletion rules they state, "Their point of view must be mentioned, yet note that there is no contradiction." They believe this article based on historic and current events is an opinion, in which case I must state that at the moment there is no contradiction known to these events and historical facts stated.
This is under Neutral Point of View, subsection Religion (1.2.3), paragraph four. The policy has therefore been met in this 'religious' article.

[edit] Proposal
If we filter out from the article the actual encyclopedic facts, we find two separate topics:
- Quite a bit about a group active during 18xx called The Iowa Band. They may well be notable enough for an article here.
- Extremely sketchy details about a group active in 200x called the Iowa Alliance for Reformation. The connection between the two is tenuous, see this sentence: "As we started this alliance we had no idea we would be fulfilling a 150 year old mandate God had given to a group called the Iowa Band." The number of Google hits for "Iowa Alliance for Reformation" is very small after you have discounted Wikipedia and clones. They appear to be not (yet) notable enough for an article.
I recommend:
- Move the article to Iowa Band (provide a redirect from The Iowa Band). Edit it mercilessly into a proper article including references and external links but omitting any mention of the Iowa Alliance for Reformation.
- Mark the redirect which will have been created at Iowa Alliance for Reformation with {{db-redirtypo}} or, if some evidence of notability can be found, change it into a very short {{reli-org-stub}}.

[edit] Made Needed Changes
Please look at the article and make any necessary changes as I know all of the problems arn't solved. I tried to find all the inapproriate references to God and religion, but I didn't address any of the other problems. However, I would suggest that this article's name be changed to the Iowa Band as that, to me, is what has the most notability. The Alliance for Reformation could be addressed in a small section of the article.Ltwin (talk) 16:30, 29 March 2008 (UTC)
