[edit] History
The frying pan was built in 2004 by men of the local community of Brandon. It took these men a little over forty volunteer man hours to construct the frying pan. It is made out of scrap steel that was donated by local farmers. The pan was originally built as a promotional tool for the Brandon Area Community Club’s semi-annual fundraiser, the cowboy breakfast. They chose to build a large frying pan because the cowboy breakfast is cooked over open flames using mostly cast iron frying pans.

- Weight: 1,200 pounds

- Rim diameter: 9 feet 3 inches
- Base diameter: 8 feet
- Handle Length: 5 feet

[edit] World Ranking
When the Brandon area locals built the frying pan they never considered checking to see if there were any other large frying pans anywhere else in the world. They later found out that in Long Beach, Washington the World’s largest frying pan existed measuring 14 feet 6 inches in total length and 9 feet 6 inches rim diameter, a mere 3 inches larger than Iowa’s largest frying pan. After much research the creators realized that there were many frying pans that claimed to be the world’s largest pan so they just called it Iowa’s largest frying pan. It probably ranks second or third in the world depending on the size of the pans in Maine and North Carolina.

The largest frying pan exists in Camogli, Italy .. it's pan measures.... 5 meters (16.40 ft.) across with a 7 meter handle. Thousands of guests flock around the giant saucepan, For an entire day, the fishermen abandon their nets for sieves, flour, oil and the enormous saucepan with cooks on all sides, surrounded by boys and girls from Camogli who are ready with a smile to distribute the freshly fried fish. The fish is handed out free to those present, so find yourself a prime spot!
The story: the fame of the “Sagra del Pesce” (Fish Feast) of Camogli coincides with that of its famous gigantic pan. It all began in the beginning of 1952 when about 20 fishermen wanted to attract the attention of tourists by donating fried fish during the feast of St. Fortunato, the patron of fishermen. This event was a great success and no one had expected such an outcome therefore the organizers of the feast had to fry fish all day. The following year the idea was once again proposed and Lorenzo Viacava a famous fisherman known as “O Napoli”, decided to build a gigantic pan for the occasion, which became the attraction of an event that had already become a real and true feast.
