Iotapa (43 BC-?) was a Princess of Media and a daughter of King Artavasdes I of Media. Her mother is unknown. In 33 BC, she was engaged to Ptolemaic Prince Alexander Helios, son of Greek Ptolemaic Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt and Roman Triumvir Mark Antony. In 30 BC Iotapa left Alexandria Egypt, after Egypt was invaded by Octavian (future Roman Emperor Augustus) and his army. [edit] Daughter of King Sohaemus of Emesa

Iotapa possibly known as Julia Iotapa, was a Princess of Emesa (modern Homs, Syria) who lived in the 1st century. Iotapa was the daughter of Princess Drusilla of Mauretania and Syrian King Gaius Julius Sohaemus of Emesa. She was a member of the Royal Family of Emesa. Her brother Gaius Julius Alexio would be a future King of Emesa.

Her paternal grandparents are unknown however; her paternal uncle was the late Emesan King Gaius Julius Azizus. Her maternal grandparents were Queen Julia Urania and King Ptolemy of Mauretania. Julia Urania most probably came from this Royal Family. Ptolemy of Mauretania was the son of African Queen Cleopatra Selene II (daughter of Ptolemaic Greek Queen Cleopatra VII of Egypt and Roman Triumvir Mark Antony) and African King Juba II (son of African King Juba I of Numidia). Little is known on her life. Syrian Queen of Palmyra, Zenobia is descended either from her or her brother.

[edit] Daughter of King Antiochus III of Commagene

Iotapa was a Greek Princess of Commagene who lived in the 1st century. She was the daughter of Greek King Antiochus III of Commagene and a descendant of former general of Greek King of Macedon Alexander the Great; Greek Syrian King and founder of the Seleucid Empire Seleucus I Nicator. Her mother is unknown.

Her husband was her brother King Antiochus IV of Commagene. They had three children: a daughter called Iotapa, a son called Antiochus Epiphanes and another son, Callinicus. Epiphanes was in 43 first betrothed to Drusilla daughter of Judean King Agrippa I, before she married Emesan (modern Homs) King Gaius Julius Azizus. Epiphanes in 53, put down an insurrection for some barbarous tribes in Cilicia. Epiphanes in 70, assisted the Roman Prince Titus by sending forces to end the siege in Jerusalem. Later in 72 Epiphanes, along with his brother Callinicus and his father lived in Rome. A grandson of Iotapa and Antiochus' was Philopappos, who lived in Athens Greece between the 1st century and the 2nd century. On coinage she is known as ‘Queen Iotape Philadelphus’ or ‘ΒΑΣΙΛΙΣΣΑ ΙΩΤΑΠΗ ΦΙΛΑΔΕΛΦΟΣ’. Her husband named a town after her which is called Iotape (modern Turkey). Coinage of her can seen at [1]
