James Bond
Wasn't Ioan Gruffudd considered as one of the James Bond candidates or was it only his own ambition? —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 193.211.199.112 (talk) 15:06, 20 May, 2006 (UTC)
Ioan Gruffudd starred in Blackhawk Down?
Don't get me wrong, I think he's a great actor, and I love his movies, but I'd hardly say he starred in Blackhawk Down. His character was only around for the first part of the movie, before being sent home after suffering a siezure from epilepsy before the battle started.--Raguleader 04:56, 27 January 2007 (UTC)
Copyright-free photographs of Gruffudd?
The photograph that currently accompanies this article has been identified as not complying with Wikipedia's fair use policy, and is likely to be deleted. I notice that there are quite a number of fan photos on the Ioanonline.com website (which is due to close on 30 April 2007) – see http://www.ioanonline.com/index.php?set_albumName=album104&name=gallery&include=view_album.php. Would some Gruffudd fans who own these photographs please upload them on to the Wikimedia Commons and add them to this article? Cheers, Jacklee 20:57, 26 April 2007 (UTC)
Gruffudd's quotations
I've removed the following quotations from the article and parked them here temporarily. They lack context and their sources are either not stated or incompletely stated. If this information can be provided, it may be possible to include them in the article.
- "When I saw a billboard on Sunset Strip I parked the car, ran out, took a picture of it, then emailed it to all my friends."[citation needed]
- What sort of billboard was he looking at – one of himself?
- "The change is that suddenly everybody wants to meet me. That's happened overnight just because I'm in a big film – and it hasn't even come out yet. You have to enjoy and exploit that. I'm happy to do that because I know it's a game. Once you start believing it's real, you're lost."[citation needed]
- What "big film" was Gruffudd referring to?
- "It's incredible, and I'm so appreciative of the lifestyle that I have. It's really fun to be able to work at doing my hobby, and be able to earn money doing it."[citation needed]
- "I was still virgin at 22. I'm not embarrassed about that at all, but I've certainly made up for it."[citation needed]
- "I'm one of those people who'll suppress things and suppress things. Then one day, bang! The fuse will blow and I'll start hitting inanimate object.": The Things They Say March 2007.
- "I think it's tarty. Personally, I enjoy the elegance and mystery of a woman."[1]
- "I have to wear an all-in-one blue spandex costume but I want them to add fake muscles.": Gruffudd, on wanting fake muscles so he didn't have to work out for Fantastic Four, article Gruffudd Wants Fake Muscles July 2004.
- "I was upset. When I read the script I was like, 'Fantastic, where's the romance bit? Oh, there isn't one.'": Gruffudd on how disappointed he was to find out he would not have a love scene with Kiera Knightely in King Arthur, article July 2004.
- "I would say to all other British actors: 'Please don't tell me that you haven't once stood in front of the mirror and quoted SCARFACE or THE GODFATHER, or made your Oscar speech!' The only different with me is that I admitted it. I said I wanted it, and I broke the taboo.": Gruffudd talking about British actors who are anti-Hollywood, article, Gruffudd Dismisses Anti-Hollywood Brits March 2007.
The "Quotations" section has been removed. I would suggest that it not be recreated as the use of such a section is now deprecated (see "Wikipedia:Guide to layout#Quotations") as it encourages editors to simply add more quotations to the section rather than trying to incorporate the information into the article. Wikipedia is not an indiscriminate collection of information. I urge editors to consider creating a Wikiquote article on Ioan Gruffudd for the quotations instead.

Accent
When I heard him talk in an interview about Fantastic Four 2, it sounded like he had an accent, which is not the same when he is filming FF2. Should it be noted that he has to talk in a way for a movie without using his accent?
-
- It's sometimes hard to shake an accent once you've started using it.
- Most actors use accents in their movies which are not their own, there is absolutely nothing unusual in this. -- Arwel (talk) 06:18, 7 June 2007 (UTC)
"Best known for"
The Hornblower series is well known, don't get me wrong, but is it really the role he's best known for now? Personally, I know him best for King Arthur, but I'd think being one of the title characters in two Fantastic Four movies might deserve the most credit. Hornblower was made-for-TV after all. - I suppose phrases like "best known for" are always subjective. The Hornblower series was the first set of films in which I saw Gruffudd appear. Perhaps you can think of a way to rephrase it without removing entirely the reference to the Hornblower series, which is probably well-known to audiences in the United Kingdom. British or Welsh?
UpDown recently amended this article to remove references to Gruffudd being a "British actor from Wales", replacing them with "Welsh actor". He said that there was "common consensus" on the matter, and referred to the Featured Article "Charles Darwin". However, I couldn't find any advice in Wikipedia:Manual of Style (biographies) on this, and I believe reliance on the "Charles Darwin" article may contravene the "other stuff exists" rule. I've posted a query at "Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (biographies)#British, or English, Scottish, Welsh, (Northern) Irish?" on this. Please put any comments that you have on the matter there. Cheers, Jacklee 13:17, 22 October 2007 (UTC)
- I can't be bothered sorting through the mess of posts at that link so I'm just going to write my comment here.
- He is Welsh. That's what he identifies himself as and that's where he was born. No need to add that he is British, it's uneccessary as the fact he's British is made clear by stating he is Welsh. 121.220.58.198 09:50, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
Yes, the debate at "Wikipedia talk:Manual of Style (biographies)#British, or English, Scottish, Welsh, (Northern) Irish?" is a little hard to follow as editors have strong views on the matter and the debate has been going on for a while now. But there seems to be some consensus (although the discussion hasn't concluded yet) that if a person expresses a preference to be called "English/(Northern) Irish/Scottish/Welsh" this should be respected. I think in the case of Gruffudd there's no dispute that he identifies as Welsh. — Cheers, JackLee –talk– 21:42, 7 November 2007 (UTC)
