I've removed the emphasis on compression. Most of the lithosphere is in compression, but that can still result in thrust, strike-slip or extensional tectonics depending on the relative magnitudes of the horizontal, and vertical stress components. Mikenorton (talk) 16:03, 20 December 2007 (UTC)
