[edit] Background

I'm a system administrator in Upstate New York. In my case, that means I'm responsible for the care and feeding of a college's email and directory servers. The servers are running either Solaris 8 or 9 or Debian. Most of my technical expertise is in the Unix world.

I've been a system administrator for about a dozen years. Before that, I taught Russian and linguistics at SUNY Albany, while trying to write a dissertation for my PhD at Cornell University. The PhD never happened, but I'm still reasonably proficient in Russian and do occasional translations.

I'm also a hobbyist beekeeper with about half a dozen hives. I enjoy collecting beekeeping books and observing my bees. The recent problem with "colony collapse disorder" has intensified my interest in these little critters.

I'm hoping that I can eventually contribute to Wikipedia in any one of these (or other) areas.
