[edit] Game Play

Inter-Planetary Warfare was originally intended as a game that would have a broad appeal. As such, the game involved allowing players to use ships and other elements from absolutely any work of science fiction. However, for the most part, the Inter-Planetary Warfare series tend to get most of their material from either Star Trek or Star Wars.

A game of Inter-Planetary Warfare starts off with a single ship, controlled by the creator of the game. As play progresses, other players join the game by stating their ship's statistics and providing an image, so that players know what the ship looks like. These ships encounter one another and may or may not end up in combat. If a game lasts long enough, a plot line, or multiple plot lines tend to develop. At the same time, the number and type of ships under a player's control changes as demanded by the story.

Eventually, a single player or group of players can end up in control of huge numbers of ships. Players need not place limits on this but can do so if they wish. This is due to the game's inherent flexibility, as is evidenced by the fact that there are only three real rules at the start of a game, which may or may not remain in place, based on how play proceeds.

[edit] Origins

Inter-Planetary Warfare had it's origins on the HeavenGames Rome: Total War boards.

[edit] Series

While the original creator of Inter-Planetary Warfare has attempted to spread it to a number of other boards, said creator had not originally intended to spread the series, instead getting the idea to try and spread the game when a different game called "Science Fiction Wars' and another game called 'Star Trek vs Star Wars' developed into a full game of Inter-Planetary Warfare on the Artix Entertainment board, which is still being played to this day.

The series' creator has since then attempted to spread the series to other boards. These involve starting an entirely new game of Inter-Planetary Warfare in the style of the original. It is worth noting that each of these games is set in its own separate universe. Events in one Inter-Planetary Warfare series have no effect on any other.

[edit] Inter-planetary Warfare: The New Age

The Inter-planetary Warfare that was played on the Artix Enterainment boards has developed into a huge plotline, and has advanced into a sequel "series" now known as "Inter-planetary Warfare:The New Age" and is no longer just a Fleet combat game, new ship classifications, factions, technologies and Gameplay styles were introduced here. This offshoot is headed by Johnty Rhodes, Danum 2,(The Arbiter) Winged Slayer32 and DWanderer (who switches usernames on a highly irregular and sometimes irritating basis) and is played on the Inter-planetary Warfare Forums (see external Links) which has a Database of everything that involves each of the Factions in play. A New gaming Style (Introduced by DWanderer) is basically playing out land battles and certain other things for example: Foreshadowing new threats, in a popular "Role-playing" style whih means writing out what is happening in prose, unlike Basic Inter-planetary Warfare which is played as a playscript (Now used for Fleets and Communications gameplay.)
