Template:Interwiki links

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

This template is part of m:Meta:WikiProject template sharing and creates a list of links for miscellaneous maintainance needs, if necessary, on the fly, to the same 'FULLPAGENAME' name space on the other sister projects, matching whatever pagename and namespace it happens to have been used within... This use is frequently limited to a preview screen to export edited page content to the other sister projects.

As such it may not ever be used (transcluded) within pages for any length of time, so it's 'what links here' may frequently (and normally will) show up empty.

  • From within template space, {{Interwikitmp-grp}} can perform the same task.
  • From within Category space, {{Interwikicat-grp}} can perform the same tasking.
  • From another page, {{{1}}} can be used to access a specific Namespace and pagename overriding the 'FULLPAGENAME' default link formation.

The long form does NOT work within the same project. The shortcut does. The Macro form will always work, and moreover, tidies things up with an automatically pipe-tricked output. Odd macro names 'W2', 'Mw' and 'W2c' resulted from naming collisions with differing use of {{w}}—many sister's had a 'w' giving page, some page, and en.Wikipedia's use differed entirely. Similar naming collisions on 'Wc'.

Links to foreign-language Wikiprojects can be made by prefixing the language code: [[:de:s:]] will link to the German-language Wikisource, [[:fr:wikt:]] to the French-language Wiktionary, etc. Links to foreign languages using macro's can be made with the parameter 'L=langprefix', and the macro will insert that between two colons to prefix ':langprefix:' to the link formed.
