[edit] technically correct or incorrect?

Since I-495 extends from a city outward, it is technically a spur, which should have an odd first digit. Even first digits are usually assigned to bypasses and beltways. However, since I-495 connects to three other interstates (I-278, I-678, and I-295), the even first digit is technically correct.

Yeah, it was supposed to cross the Long Island Sound and meet I-95 in RI or CT -JGCarter

DanTD: The image you referenced above for Exit 70A is really intriguing. Is it possible for you to put any others that you may have up on the I-495 page? This seems like the appropriate venue for such images to be seen by anyone interested, and it's free :) They could be linked to the various bullets shown on the "proposed interchanges" section (and then the "no citations" flag could be removed).

I uplaoded the link for just that purpose, as well as one about NY 27A in Bay Shore. However, Wikipedia is threatening to delete both of them. I wish I could post it in the proposed interchanges section, without taking up a whole bunch of space. DanTD 13:13, 31 July 2006 (EST)

[edit] Exit List Table

It would be nice to convert the exit list here into a table. I've been looking through other interstate's pages, and there does not seem to be any standard format (indeed, the WP:Interstates just calls for exit lists "in table form" or some other vague language). All the samples I've looked at are slightly different. I think something like the following might work best for the LIE:

Exit #; Mile; Location of Exit; Route/Road Name; Any Notes

We could employ a similar color scheme for "decommissioned", "proposed", etc., as on the NYS route tables.

Any thoughts?

If you or somebody else is willing to work on it, go ahead. I'm having a hard enough time adjusting to the new intersection boxes, but somebody has already started an Exit table for New York State Route 27, that so far can only be found in the talk section of that page.----DanTD 18:33, 3 August 2006 (EST)

[edit] Major Junctions

I noticed the only major junctions noted are the ones in Queens. Surely Exit 22 (Grand Central Parkway), Exit 31 (Cross Island Parkway), Exit 42 (Northern State Parkway), Exit 44 (NY 135), Exit 53 (Sagtikos State Parkway-Wicks Road-Commack Road), and exit 68 (William Floyd Parkway) are all major junctions.

Nobody seemed to care so I went on and added it in Jgcarter 14:25, 18 January 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Locations of proposed interchanges

If anybody needs any mileage info regarding the proposed interchanges with Wantagh and Bethpage Parkway extensions, here's the best I can give you from those 1/10 mile markers;

  • Wantagh Parkway Extension location(Exit 39A):495I-0302-1083.
  • Bethpage Parkway Extension location(Exit 47):495I-0302-1149.

NY 495 is signed as part of I-495, and really has no independent history. I think it would make sense to merge the two. --NE2 00:43, 30 October 2007 (UTC)

  • Oppose The whole 495 story is a fascinating one, but I think these are three separate articles for NJ 495, NY 495 and I-495 NY. I'd love to see sources for the changes in designation of portions of I-495, but I couldn't find anything in The New York Times. Alansohn 01:32, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
    • I see one paragraph in New York State Route 495 that's not redundant to the I-495 article. Any changes in designation would also go in both articles. --NE2 01:36, 30 October 2007 (UTC)
      • Sure, there's overlap on all three articles. There's already enough confusion as to the identity of each of these roadways, and the best way to clarify this is to keep them separate and to refer to the articles and what portions of NJ/NY/Interstate 495 are which. Freewayguy recently moved this article to Interstate 495 and State Route 495 (New York). I have moved it back, however, was this a good idea to move it? Or shall we keep NY 495 seperate? Mitch32contribs 20:51, 5 March 2008 (UTC)

None of the above. NYSDOT signs NY 495 as I-495, so if a merge is done it should remain at this title. --NE2 13:26, 6 March 2008 (UTC)
