[edit] Article name

Can someone shed light on the rational for the bizarre name of this article? In English, film festival is two words. I can only think that the original editor of this article named it as such to conform with the festival's acroynm, IDFA. But acronyms are abbreviations, and aren't meant to be taken so literally all the time. Perhaps IDFA means International Documentary Festival Amsterdam? On the festival website, the name is clearly stated as International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam, and I propose that to be the name of this page. If there are no objections after a period of time, I'll make the move. — WiseKwai 10:36, 12 November 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps something like "IDFA (film festival)" would do the job? By my opinion, "International Documentary Film Festival Amsterdam" would be too long for a title. Jdjerich 13:37, 12 November 2007 (UTC)
There is already too much alphabet soup in this world. The naming conventions advise against the use of acronyms. Certainly, there could be a redirect created for IDFA. Spelling out the name of the festival is hardly cumbersome, not any more so than other film festivals. All I'm really seeking is to correct the incorrect English-language usage of "filmfestival".— WiseKwai 12:53, 29 November 2007 (UTC)
I agree completely on "alphabet soup", but this article might be an exemption, as it is often referenced simply as IDFA, much more often than other festivals are called by their acronyms. This way "filmfestival" issue would also be solved. Jdjerich 15:16, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Anyway, I've been bold and moved the page, and a redirect from IDFA has already been created. If someone is looking for it on Wikipedia, it will be found. The page is looking good with the addition of the awards listing. — WiseKwai 17:04, 30 November 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Largest in the world

"The International Documentary Filmfestival Amsterdam (IDFA) is the largest documentary film festival in the world." With more than 200 entries, I don't doubt this assertion, but there will be other editors looking for a third-party reference for this fact. Can anybody provide one? — WiseKwai 12:53, 29 November 2007 (UTC)

Perhaps not the largest in terms of number of films, but the most prestiges for sure. In this world people often presume that size is the most important dimension :) Jdjerich 15:10, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
Well, again, prestige is a notion that really needs verification from a third party source -- something other than the festival organization. — WiseKwai 17:14, 30 November 2007 (UTC)
I'm not in festival organization, but since I can see you know it all best... Just don't get why you write any questions, knowing all the answers? Jdjerich 18:54, 1 December 2007 (UTC)
