Talk:International Data Corporation
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Is this really an impartial article? The references to things like "our clients" make it look like someone has just copied and pasted advertising material. —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 82.25.187.235 (talk • contribs) 01:24, 10 April 2006.
- The material is a copyright violation pasted from the IDC website. I've removed it. --Muchness 08:48, 8 May 2006 (UTC)
I would like to reiterate the first comment about how this article uses improper language such as "our company". This material has been copied straight from the company's website and should be removed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.225.201.6 (talk) 02:28, 3 December 2007 (UTC)
Removed? It's either never left, or has come back again as of May 15th: "For more than 43 years, IDC has provided strategic insights to help our clients achieve their key business objectives. IDC is a subsidiary of International Data Group, the world's leading ..." Not only is this a copyright violation; it's undiluted PR. THere's certainly no NPV here, and quite possibly a skewing of the facts. Let's fix it, guys. Post a notice at the top of the article, "This article requires cleanup to meet WIkipedia standards...", lest readers think it's an acceptable POV in our eyes. Let's not permit Wikipedia to become home to shills and clacquers. Sethnessatwikipedia (talk) 05:23, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
Is this the IDC company mentioned (but not hyperlinked to any Wikipedia page) in the Keygen article?Sethnessatwikipedia (talk)
[edit] Controversy
Let's insert a "controversy" section. I've done some research on IDC, and have found that they're essentially a "hired gun", publishing "research results"/opinion pieces that support whomever is paying for the "research", much like scientists paid by Big Tobacco to prove that smoking isn't harmful. We lose our NPV & become their PR trumpet if we don't at least mention that (with some good references).Sethnessatwikipedia (talk) 02:33, 18 May 2008 (UTC)
[edit] Fair use rationale for Image:IDC logo.png
Image:IDC logo.png is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.
Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.
If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images lacking such an explanation can be deleted one week after being tagged, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.
