"Into the Void" is a song by Black Sabbath, released in 1971 on their album, Master of Reality. The song also helped pioneer the doom metal genre. The opening riff is often called "Death Mask." The song is about when the earth is overcome with war and pollution, and a group of astronauts go to search for a new world to live on.
Various artists have covered the song, including Kyuss, Exhorder, Lumsk, Soundgarden, Melvins, Monster Magnet, Orange Goblin, Kathetor, Droids Attack,and Sanctimony. The thrash metal band Slayer is also said to have used the opening riff in their song South of Heaven.
