Elliot Goldenthal scored the 1994 film Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles. It has a very old style feel with organs and odd sounds mixed in and with Goldenthal's penchant for big brass crescendos and dramatic elements, it complements the movies atmosphere adequately and is considered one of his most under-rated scores.

The rock band Guns N' Roses covered the Rolling Stones song "Sympathy for the Devil" which is at the end credits in the Soundtrack Album. An internal strife would occur over the arrangement of the guitar solo which would lead to the breakup of the original lineup.

A single CD was also released by Geffen Records, featuring "Sympathy for the Devil" and "Escape to Paris" as tracks No. 1 and No. 2 respectively.

The album was nominated for the Academy Award and the Golden Globe Award for Best Original Score (lost both times to the score of The Lion King).
