International Yacht Restoration School

The International Yacht Restoration School (IYRS) is a school on Thames Street in Newport, Rhode Island focusing on boat and yacht restoration.

In 1993 restorationist Elizabeth Meyer, artist John Mecray, and several other yachting enthusiats founded the school on Thames Street in Newport on 2 1/2 acres of waterfront. The School owns several large buildings including a 1831 stone Newport Steam Factory building listed on the National Register of Historical Places. The school acquired a famed 1881 yacht, the Coronet, in 1995. Students have restored and returned over 100 boats to the water since 1993. The school has a 2-year certificate program, a continuing education program, and other educational opportunities.
