International Weblogger's Day
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
International Weblogger's Day (or InWeDay) is an unofficial online celebration held annually on June 14th for bloggers around the world. Celebrating the day involves two events: writing entries in one's own blog pertaining to the year's theme, and going to meetups in particular locations.
[edit] Theme
The theme for the 2008 InWeDay is "change" and the goal is to have bloggers consider the impact of change in a world that is currently undergoing such rapid an unforseeable change.
The theme for the 2007 InWeDay was "solidarity".
[edit] History
InWeDay first saw the light of day back in 2004, when a blogger by the name of Rio Akasaka used his webpage, several comments on blogs he encountered, and a rudimentary logo to spread the idea. Back then, InWeDay was celebrated on the 9th of June, but since the date had little symbolic representation, it was moved to the 14th of June in 2005, for reasons that are detailed here. In 2005, the celebration saw 587 blogs from 43 countries represented. Since then, InWeDay has been gathering momentum, with more and more meetups and more and more people participating in a truly global event.
