International Union of Food Science and Technology

The International Union of Food Science and Technology (IUFoST) (pronounced "eye-you-fost") is an international non-governmental organization established in 1962 to devote the advancement of food science and technology. Its has as its members national food science and technology institutes and societies. Initially called the International Congress of Food Science and Technology, it would become known as IUFoST after the 1970 meeting in Washington, DC. It is a full member of the International Council for Science (ICSU).

[edit] IUFoST's roles
- Every two years, it hosts a World Congress of Food Science and Technology. The next world congress is in Shanghai, China in 2008. The most recent conference at Nantes, France during September 17-21, 2006 had over 1000 papers presented with delegates from 62 countries.
- It is cosponsor of regional and national conferences, short courses, and workshops. This has included over 80 symposia with subsequent publications afterwards.
- Liaision with the United Nations' Food and Agricultural Organization and World Health Organization on international food science and technology issues.

- Lebensmittel-Wissenschaft & Technologie (lwt - food science and technology in (German)), an official journal of IUFoST, published by Elsevier in Amsterdam.
- International Review of Food Science and Technology, an annual review published by Sovereign Publications.
- World of Food Science, online journal jointly published by IUFoST and the Institute of Food Technologists (IFT)

- International Academy of Food Science and Technology, a distinguished list of food scientists and technologists world wide. This includes the current and past presidents of IUFoST, the current and past secretaries-general of IUFoST; and other scientists world wide. As of 2006, there are 131 fellows from 36 countries.

The current president of IUFoST is David R. Lineback (University of Maryland, College Park) of the United States. Its president-elect is Geoffrey Campbell-Platt of the United Kingdom while its immediate past president is Alan Mortimer of Australia.

Its members include the Institute of Food Technologists in the United States and the European Federation of Food Science and Technology.

IUFoST is headquartered in Oakville, Ontario, Canada, a suburb of Toronto.
