The International Turntablist Federation is an internationally recognized DJ collective. ITF's mandate is "to form industry awareness for the recognition and the development of the turntable as a musical instrument while providing the greatest worldwide DJ competitions."
Founded in 1996 with the help of three prominent turntablist groups: the Invisibl Skratch Piklz; the X-Men (now the X-Ecutioners); and the Beat Junkies, the ITF quickly gained prominence within the hip hop music scene. Based in San Francisco, California, the organization quickly grew to fifteen international chapters on four continents.
ITF is primarily known for producing the world's most prestigious, annual, DJ competition circuit. Its main 'raison d'ĂȘtre', is the orchestration of unique regional, national and international competitions that fully demonstrate the art of turntablism. Through its competitions, various showcases and promotional material, ITF aims to increase public awareness of DJ/ turntablist culture. ITF encourages the promotion of the turntable as a musical instrument and aims to showcase and develop international DJ/ turntablist talent.
Past ITF champions and award recipients include some of the most prolific turntablists of all-time, including Grand Wizard Theodore, DJ Babu, Vinroc, DJ Q-bert, Mix Master Mike and A-Trak.
