International School of Kenya

The International School of Kenya is an international school for pre-kindergarten to grade 12 located on the outskirts of Nairobi, Kenya. It was established in 1976 and has a 25 hectare campus. Students can study for North American High School Diploma and/or the International Baccalaureate Diploma.

ISK, as it is more commonly known, is divided into three schools: an elementary school comprising pre-kindergarten to grade 5, a middle school with grades 6-8, and a high school with grades 9-12. Each school has its own principal, class rooms, and recreational areas, while all three share many other facilities. The multi-million dollar arts center is well known and said to be the best theatre facility in Nairobi. The school has a large gymnasium, swimming pool, and several playing fields. In 2006, a construction project was started to expand the high school. It was completed in December 2007, and students were moved in the following month.

The school is located on the outskirts of Nairobi at the end of Peponi Road and is surrounded by coffee plantations. However, ongoing constructions may change the surrounding area. The school was formerly known as Nairobi International School (NIS) from 1969 until it was taken over by the United States Embassy and Canadian High Commission in 1976. It is the biggest international school in Nairobi.

Famous Alumni include: Dan Eldon (famous photographer killed in the Somali crisis 1993). Graduates have attended prominent universities in the United States (including every Ivy League university), Canada, Britain, Australia, South Africa and the European Union.

The school is also well known for its sports including basketball cricket, football, volleyball, and swimming.
