International Palm Society

The International Palm Society (IPS)is a horticultural society devoted to the promotion, cultivation, and study of palms (plant family Arecaceae). Founded in 1956 as "The Palm Society", in the 1980s the name was changed to reflect its worldwide membership.

The organization publishes a quarterly, peer-reviewed botanical and horticultural magazine, Palms (formerly Principes).

The IPS maintains an endowment for support of palm research and education which annually provides approximately $50,000 in grants.

The immediate Past President, Horace O. Hobbs, Jr., received the French National Horticultural Society's medal of honor for services rendered to the world of horticulture in 2002.
