IMTA, also known as the International Modeling & Talent Association, is an association of model and talent schools and agencies around the world, and the only comprehensive bi-coastal talent competition in the the United States open to all ages and both sexes. Participant agents scout, develop, and present their fashion models, actors, singers, and dancers to some of the worlds top agents, managers, and industry professionals from New York, Los Angeles, Europe, and Asia.
A major feature of the IMTA are talent conventions held alternately in New York and Los Angeles. At their best, these conventions allow prospective models and actors to be seen by members of the industry including talent scouts, casting directors, and agency representatives. However, some participants and agents have noted that this process is no more effective in identifying talent than direct contact with individual agencies.[1][2]
Although participation in IMTA activities tends to be costly and does not guarantee that participants are able to work in their selected industry, some past participants of IMTA competitions have experienced success at various levels; these include actors Elijah Wood, Eva Longoria, Katie Holmes, Sean Faris, Jessica Biel, Sofia Vassilieva, Regine Nehy, and Jennifer Belander. [3] IMTA, 2007, (New York, New York) is considered the largest IMTA convention so far, with over 400 Talent/Modeling Agents and Managers attending this event and more than 2,000 contestents from all over the world.
Dave McRae, One of Canada's top voice artists took part in the competition in January 2003. He won 5 IMTA awards that included first place for his monologue and soap opera, 2nd runner up for cold read, honorable mention for the commercial competition and 4th runner up actor of the year. No other competitor from Canada had ever done that.
