International Coffee Organization

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

International Coffee Organization (ICO) (established 1963 in London) was initiated in collaboration with UN to enhance cooperation between nations that consume, distribute and produce coffee.

It was a result of the five-year first International Coffee Agreement (at the UN in New York, 1962), renegotiated at ICO in London 1968, 1976, 1983, 1994 and 2005.[1] Member countries (2007) are 45 exporting nations and 32 importing nations. Its highest body is the International Coffee Council, meeting twice a year. Operations are governed by a sixteen-member Executive Board from elected exporters (8) and importers (8). The Private Sector Advisory Board (established 1999) comprises sixteen representatives from consuming and producing industries, that meet biannually with the Council. The Executive Director is NĂ©stor Osorio (Columbia, since 2002). ICO is located at 22 Berners Street, London.
