The International Code of Area Nomenclature (ICAN) provides a universal naming system or nomenclature for areas of endemism used in biogeography and elsewhere. The ICAN also serves as the international standard rules for proposing and using area names [1].
The ICAN was ratified by the Systematic and Biogeographical Association (SEBA) [2] in Paris during July 2007.
