International Biographical Centre
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The International Biographical Centre is a publisher owned by Melrose Press Ltd that specializes in producing biographical publications, such as the Dictionary of International Biography and other awards.
It is based in Cambridge in the United Kingdom.
Like the American Biographical Institute, the IBC states that "entry into our books is based on merit alone and we never charge for inclusion."[1] and whilst this is superficially correct, individuals who pay for inclusion receive a larger entry and are offered specially crafted awards. Further, merit selection is less rigorous with the IBC sending 'invitations' to selected sources who nominates others or is nominated by a third party. It is also possible to nominate yourself for inclusion on their website. [2]
The IBC specializes in creating "awards" and offering them to many.[3] Awards cost the recipient between US$500 and $1495 each, depending on its claimed prestige.[4]
The American Biographical Institute and the International Biographical Centre hold an annual convention each year known as the International Congress on Science, Culture and Arts in the 21st Century. The Congress provides a forum for the artists, scientists, professionals and educators who are biographees to show their works. Selected biographees also conduct seminars at the Congress.[5][dubious ]
