[edit] General information

The airport is located between the towns of Almyros, Nea Anchialos, Velestino and Farsala, about 20 km to the east of central Volos (26 km by road, due to intervening hills)in Magnesia Prefecture of Thessaly. The airport is named after Nea Anchialos, the nearest town.

The airport currently has one terminal, (its Main Terminal, accessible by a foot-tunnel from the Main Terminal), with runways approximately 1 kilometres in length. The airport is developing by public partnership ;

The airport is designed to be upgraded over the ensuing years in order to accommodate the increase in air travel, and its upgades are planned in a six-phase framework.

A rail station immediately adjacent to the airport terminal (and accessible by an elevated walkway) will be completed in 2008. The airport is also accessible by the E75 highway.[3]
