Interboro High School
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Interboro High School is a high school located in Prospect Park, Pennsylvania, a suburb of Philadelphia in Delaware County.
As the sole high school in the Interboro School District, students from surrounding communities Glenolden, Norwood, Prospect Park itself, and the two towns of Tinicum Township (Lester and Essington) attend grade levels 9-12 here.
The school district's schoolbus system is headquartered at the high school, as is "ITV," a television studio broadcasting to all cable-ready homes in the district.
As of the 2006-2007 school year, IHS has a student body of roughly 1,500.
[edit] Notable Staff
Interboro was once under the supervision of Dr. Michael Pladus, who won national awards for being an outstanding principal. His help and dedication resulted in Interboro High School's recognition as a Blue Ribbon School. He left the District in 2004, after serving his time as the Superintendent.
Another notable teacher was Mr. Anthony Costanzo, who was an inspiration to all his students, a finalist for the Challenger mission which ended in tragedy, and a multi-award winner of the adviser of the year award, reaching both regional and national status.
Interboro High School is known for its sports program. The football team, coached by Steve Lennox, has won their division for over a decade ending with 2007. Their annual Thanksgiving Day game is played against their cross-town rival, the Ridley Green Raiders. Interboro is currently 10-31 against the Green Raiders on Thanksgiving Day.
[edit] Prominent alumni
In 2004, Vince Papale, a native of Glenolden, Pennsylvania, was inducted in the Interboro hall of fame. He played three seasons with the Philadelphia Eagles, and was the inspiration for the 2006 movie Invincible.
