Inter-activa
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
INTER-ACTIVA is an i-deas company registered in the U.K. that was founded by Ricard Gras in 2003.
Its specialisation is the conceptualisation of new content ideas based on technology. Over the past years they have also worked as consultants in projects that involved interactive and linear media companies working together in cross-platform concepts.
They are known for their Machinima and virtual world projects but also for creating one of the first purposely-built virtual movie sets ever created inside an MMO [1]. They are also known for the work alongside audiences in Second Life and for their promotion of Machinima through articles and talks.
As an organisation it has wide experience in the creation of machinima (the making of animation using videogames). Electronic Arts, SEGA and SONY are amongst the companies that have given INTER-ACTIVA permission to use their games in its productions. In 2005 this organisation became one of the first European companies to develop virtual content for the Second Life environment [2].
INTER-ACTIVA has collaborated in projects with companies of the likes of Linden Lab, Endemol, Electric Sheep Company, AKQA, Boots, Rooster Teeth and the Edinburgh Interactive Entertainment Festival. They were also official sponsors of the 2007 Machinima Europe Festival. They have also engaged in sensor-based and MoCap experimental projects alongside organisations like The Animation Academy, Cuttlefish and Arts & Technology Partnerships.
Their work has been shown in events and festivals such as the New York’s Museum of Moving Image, B.tween, Showcomotion Children’s Media Conference, National Film Theatre, Amsterdam’s Cross-media Salon, Barcelona’s CaixaForum, Singapore’s Mixed-Media summit amongst others. INTER-ACTIVA won the Best Technical Achievement award at the latest Machinima Film Festival thanks to the creation of purpose-built Machinima Tools inside Second Life and its projects have been shortlisted for different festivals under categories such as Best Visual Design and Experimental work [3].
