Founded in 1979 in Oldendorf/Luhe, the Inter-Research Science Center is a specialized scientific publishing company located in northern Germany. It was founded by Otto Kinne. Inter-Research is mainly known for its various journals:
- Marine Ecology Progress Series (MEPS)
- Aquatic Microbial Ecology (AME)
- Diseases of Aquatic Organisms (DAO)
- Climate Research (CR)
- Ethics in Science and Environmental Politics (ESEP)
- Endangered Species Research (ESR)
- Aquatic Biology (AB)
MEPS, a continuation of the book series "Marine Ecology", edited by Kinne in the 1960s and 1970s and published by Wiley.
Inter-Research (IR) is a very small company, compared to the great publishing houses that own thousands of scientific journals, but maintains its independence, as opposed to numerous other small publishers who have been taken over by the major players. IR is exceptional in relying on in-house copy editing and typesetting, at a time when most science publishers outsource these tasks to inexpensive contractors in Third World countries.[citation needed]
