[edit] Special features

Users can define mouse buttons to run any executable program or file they desire (or a control key + letter combination), and can even define them for different functions in chosen programs.

With IntelliPoint 4, users were able to specify mouse wheel behavior to scroll one screen at a time. This feature was useful in situations where the user had to work with windows of varying size and a fixed scroll rate alternated from being too fast or too slow depending on each window. This feature was removed in IntelliPoint 5. The "Alt+Tab" button combination was also replaced with "Next Window," effectively preventing users from alternating between specific programs, and instead having to cycle through one by one.

This article on the web talks about changing registry values to enable "Alt+Tab" button combination and the like: http://www.terravirtua.com/index.php?idx=98

[edit] Limitations

If the keyboard type contains multimedia buttons, the user can define them, but only globally and not per application.

Version 6.2 forces the user to constantly check for updates by installing and launching the file "dpupdchk.exe" in the background. It must stay in the background for the control panel's settings to launch (although it could be avoided by renaming the file to something else).

On Windows XP there has been a serious performance problem with Intellipoint drivers version > 5.2.

The driver creates extensive amounts of disc-access due to the plugin-structure of the driver.

Solved by uninstalling the Intellipoint driver.
