[edit] COPYRIGHT INFRINGEMENT
I have created the ILAC article in wikipedia and added a link to ILAC webpage, which seems to be to source of the problem. I have not commited a copyright infringment since the ILAC webpage and its content is a public good and access free. Can the administrator help me to have the ILAC article available?
- Wikipedia must act to protect to the copyright of ILAC; it is a legal obligation to do so.
- I am not an administrator, but I marked the web page as being a copyright infringement, because it contained copies from the ILAC web page. It is not the link, but the fact that the article is a copy of the web page. Copying a web page is a copyright infringement unless
- the web site contains information granting use of the content under a suitable license for any purpose; or
- the web site is free of copyright (for example works of the US government are free of copyright, but this is not true of all governments); or
- specific permission from the copyright holder is sent officially to Wikipedia.
- This permission must allow any use for any purpose (subject to a credit). In general, permissions do not work well for Wikipedia articles.
- I think a better alternative would be a complete rewrite. The article was like an advert for ILAC, and was also difficult to understand because of a lack of context. If you would like to propose a new article, you can follow the special link on the article page to do that. I would have done that, but I could not understand the article. Now I understand what the problem is. I will rewrite the entire article and place a link to the webpage. Could you pleare remoce the copyright infringement mark? Thanks
- Now the mark is there, it can only be removed by an administrator. But you can prepare the new article using the instructions on the page ("To write a new article..."). I would like to suggest that you take a look at the entries for some similar bodies, so that the article can be in the style expected by Wikipedia (for example: no top heading; first paragraph needs to explain the concept for a reader completely unfamiliar with it; link to existing articles like grass roots and CGIAR; summarize aims rather than copy mission statements; acknowledge the context, competitors, and any criticisms to preserve a neutral point of view.) It is not always easy for an experienced writer to switch to the voice needed here, but it is worth trying. I hope this helps. Notinasnaid 13:17, 23 November 2006 (UTC)
I have started a new article following the instructions. It is now under "Editing Talk:Institutional Learning and Change (ILAC)/Temp". Waiting the administrator to move the temp article into place.--CSette 08:00, 24 November 2006 (UTC)
