[edit] Category policy for research institutions

Hi Karol,

I saw your recent edit that removed too general category links from Institut Jean Nicod. I am not yet very familiar with the use of categories in this area of WP, so I'd like to ask some suggestions on how to find the most appropriate ones for this kind of research lab.

I have checked the conventions used with other labs and I have come up with the conclusion that what is needed is a category link specifying the type of page and one or more categories related to the topic.

As for the type, I'm adding Category:Research_institutes since it's the one which best fits the Institute's activity (its main focus is on research). If only one type category is allowed (?), I'd prefer this one to the educational one.

As for the topic, I was looking at what other labs do and I don't see any reason for removing all topic-related categories. Ex.:

etc.

In the case of Institut Jean Nicod, the most specific topic categories I was able to find are certainly Category:Cognitive_science and Category:Philosophy. The problem, though, with this lab is that its research is genuinely interdisciplinary, which makes it difficult to narrow down research domains to one or two. Take a look at the areas covered by the Institute in its Online Paper Repository.

To sum up, I'm adding for the time being the following categories: Category:Research_institutes, Category:Cognitive_science and Category:Philosophy

Please let me know if you have better suggestions on how to deal with the interdisciplinarity issue.

Cheers,
