Institute of Technological Studies

The Institute of Technological Studies (ITS) is a private degree awarding institution situated in Colombo, Sri Lanka. It offers degree programs for undergraduates, especially transfer programs such as 2+2 or 3+1 for undergraduates who want to transfer to the United States, Canada or other countries.
Proud of their 22 years of history, ITS have improved in the number of students with the quality of the foreign lecturers and the local faculty. As the government universities of Sri Lanka only accept 5-10% of the students who sit for the local G.C.E. Advance level examination, there was a question mark for the rest of students’ higher educations. After the political issues the Institute of Technological Studies was approved under the Section 25 A of the Amended University Act No. 16 of 1978 on 15 December, 1988.
The Institute of Technological Studies was established in 1984 as a private university in a calm environment of 4.5 acre plot of land in the heart of Colombo and it was founded by Dr. Edirisinghe, the president of ITS. In June 1985, ITS started to offer B.S degree in Computer science in the affiliation with the University of Huston, Clear lake Texas. It became the first institute in Sri Lanka to offer business degrees in 1987 by creating its own business administration faculty.
Since 1991, the institute expanded its activities by offering the first three years of majority of the bachelor’ degrees offered in US universities.
The inter-disciplinary approach of study in American system is retained in all the courses that are offered in Institute of technological studies. This approach to higher education enables students and the members of the faculty to reach beyond a single field of study to examine issues and problems from various perspectives and to prepare for the global market.
Currently the Troy University in Troy, Alabama have joined with Institute of technological studies to give a future of opportunities by offering the entire Computer Science and Business administration degree to the Sri Lankan students. The degree that you will obtain in ITS will be exactly same as you obtain at Troy University.
The ITS campus has the basic facilities such as a canteen where snacks and rice and curry prepared on site can be purchased. Recreation facilities include a table tennis room and basketball and tennis courts. The spacious grounds are nicely landscaped and benches allow for socialization between classes.
ITS always look at the prospective employment opportunities and the market in teaching the students whether it is a Medical Science, Management, Business Administration or any other field. It has a vast number of its Alumni are proudly employed both in Sri Lanka and overseas.
