The Institute of Professional Financial Managers (IPFM) was established in 1992 as an England Professional body.
It has the permission of DTI to use the word 'Institute'. It was established to bridge the gap between the Accountancy & Treasury professions. The IPFM has become one of the largest Financial Management body in the world. It currently draws membership from the UK,Eastern Europe,Canada,South East Asia,Middle East, Australia,Canada,the US & Africa. It has established links with some organisations whereby members of the IPFM are accepted without need to fill further application forms other than the ones filled on joining IPFM.
IPFM has over 20 representatives worldwide and they provide educational services leading to the institute's qualifications. Members are encouraged to undertake various courses and examinations and professional development programmes.
The IPFM is very strong in Eastern Europe, majorly because they conduct their courses through the use of local languages. They are also very visible in some African countries and in Canada. The IPFM's quarterly journal provide an opportunity for members to get updated through well researched articles from experts on various topics relating to financial management. IPFM also organises business conferences and dinners, such forum gives opportunities for members to interact and network.

[edit] Membership Categories
The institute currently has the following categories of membership:
- Technician are those who are university graduates or have passed any two subjects of any professional body.
- Associate for those who have completed relevant professional qualifications eg CCAB and other second tier accountancy bodies like CIB,ATII, ICSA with three years experience.
- Fellowship is reserved for those with MBA,those who have passed the final examinations of the Association of Corporate Treasurers, those who are eligible for IPFM associate grade who are Fellows of the Institute of Management,Fellows of the Institute of Bankers, Fellows of any recognised accountancy bodies.
- Doctoral Fellow reserved only for those with a doctoral degree with five years experience.
