[edit] History
Established in 1979. The Institute has focused mainly on research on Pakistan society and politics, education, economy, foreign policy and security issues, regional and global developments related to Pakistan and the Muslim World and the issues with regard to Islamic Studies and Islamisation. It has produced around 200 publications and over 1000 unpublished reports. Seminars and conferences are a regular feature at IPS. Besides research activities, the Institute has a training program for both corporate and social sectors. It has 30 members at its National Academic Council. Plans and priorities are set in the light of advice and guidance given by the NAC.
It seeks support and collaboration as well as extends cooperation to organizations with identical objectives in one or more areas of research. This coordination could be one-time, time-specific, or discipline-based and includes conducting joint research projects, cosponsoring of seminars and exchange of library and archives facilities. Realizing that collaboration among organizations of identical objectives plays a healthy role in achieving the targets, IPS has mutual cooperation with a number of national and international institutions.
