Institute of Development Studies

The Institute of Development Studies (IDS) based at the University of Sussex is a research and teaching centre dealing with international development issues.

Established in 1966 as an independent research institute, IDS has close links with the University, but is financially and constitutionally independent.

It has five research team based on the following themes:

  • Globalisation
  • Participation, Power, and Social Change
  • Vulnerabilty and Poverty Reduction
  • Knowledge, Technology and Society
  • Governance

IDS also has eight postgradute programmes and a variety of knowledge services (including id21, eldis, blds, BRIDGE).
