[edit] Disaster management and civil protection
Since its foundation, the international environment has changed, civil protection has responded, progressing through the principle of ‘Integrated Emergency Management’ to the present-day use of a ‘capabilities’ or ‘resilience’ approach, i.e. planning to mitigate threats and consequences from any cause, including, natural events, terrorism, socio-technological catastrophe, and system failure.
[edit] Uniting academics with professionals
A key aim of the institute is to bring academics & professionals closer together, thereby ensuring a multi-disciplinary approach to the whole field of disaster & emergency management.
