Inside Story is Grace Jones's eighth studio album, and her first with the Manhattan Records label. It was also her first time working with producer Nile Rodgers. The album spawned the singles "I'm Not Perfect (But I'm Perfect For You)", "Victor Should Have Been A Jazz Musician", "Crush", and "Party Girl". "I'm Not Perfect" was one of her most successful singles, charting at 56 in UK and 69 in the US. The art for this album was designed by Richard Bernstein, who had previously worked with Grace on the albums Muse (1979), Fame (1978), and Portfolio (1977). This album is notable for being Grace's first foray into production, a role she would again assume on 1989's Bulletproof Heart.
