INS Rajput (D51) is the lead ship of the Rajput Class destroyers of the Indian Navy was commissioned on September 30, 1980. INS Rajput serves as a trial platform for the BrahMos cruise missile. The 4 P-20M single launchers (port and starboard) have been replaced by two boxed launchers. Each box has 4 cells. A new variant of the Prithvi-III missile was test fired from the ship in March 2007.[1] The ship is capable of hitting land targets with the Brahmos land attack cruise missile. The missile fired from the ship destroys the right target from a group of targets demonstrating precision hit capability.[2]
