Inman Road
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Inman Road is a road in Fayette County, Georgia. Inman runs from Ga. Highway 92 South and turns into County Line Road upon intersecting with South Jeff Davis Road. Inman Road is approximately 4.32 miles long.
History: Inman Road was recently closed for repairs. The bridge spanning Waterwood Creek was undergoing a widening process, resulting in travel delays for many locals. Inman Road is the site of a historic plaque commemorating the skirmish of Taper's Barn. On July 14, 1865, 20 Union soldiers foraging for food encountered at least 40 Confederate soldiers. The Confederates, unaware of the war's end, opened fire on the Union contingent. Although the exchange of fire was heavy, none of the soldiers were wounded, save a Confederate sniper who was injured upon falling from his position high in a pecan tree. An understanding was eventually reached between the opposing forces, and both sides went on their way.
