Ink Eradicator
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
The Ink Eradicator is a German-designed correction pen produced by Pelikan. It can break down royal blue ink without residue. It is also known as Super Pirat and Super Sheriff.
The Ink Eradicator is two sided: it has an erasing tip (which comes in three styles: 850 B, 850 F, and 258 M) and a royal blue correction tip. The 850 B is a broad tip made to erase whole words, whereas the 850 F is a fine tip for erasing letters. The 258 M is a multipurpose tip designed with an angle for different amounts of coverage.
[edit] Chemistry of Ink Eradicator
Most common inks are organic dyes. Incoming light passes through dye molecules which absorb certain wavelengths of light. The rest of the light reflects off the paper. This mechanism works only if the molecule is perfectly flat. Ink Eradicator disrupts this geometry so that light is no longer filtered. The molecules are disrupted by sulfite or hydroxide ions binding to the central carbon atoms of the dye. The ink is not destroyed by the erasing process, but is made invisible. It can be transformed back into a visible work with aldehydes.
