Ings

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ings is an old Yorkshire word for the water meadows & marshes which were part of the Humber flood plain.

Ings often teem with large numbers of water birds and other wildlife. In recent times the word has fallen out of use as standard dialect but can still be found in place names such as Fairburn Ings, the RSPB reserve, and the Far Ings Nature Reserve.
