Ingleside Vineyards is is a winery located in the Northern Neck George Washington Birthplace AVA, an American Viticultural Area located in the Northern Neck region of Virginia. Ingleside is one of the oldest and largest wineries in the state. The 70 acres of vinyards are part of a 3,000 acre estate which has been owned by the Flemer family for over one hundred years. The proprietor is the great-great grandson of Charles H. Flemer who established Ingleside in 1890. The Ingleside estate was built in 1834 as Washington Academy, a boys school. It also served as a Civil War garrison, a courthouse, and a dairy.
Virginia's Northern Neck is a peninsula formed by the Rappahannock and Potomac Rivers (both tributaries of the Chesapeake Bay) creates a stable climate among rolling hills with sandy loam soil. These conditions are similar to those of the Bordeaux region of France.
Ingleside also offers 2 cottages at the winery for rent.
