Inga Nielsen

Inga Nielsen (June 2, 1946February 10, 2008) was a Danish soprano.

Nielsen was born in Holbæk, and made her first recording at the age of nine singing Danish folk songs and Christmas carols. After finishing her studies in Vienna, Stuttgart and Budapest, the soprano began her career in the opera houses of Germany and Switzerland, and in 1975 became an ensemble member of the Frankfurt Opera.

She was a regular guest performer at the Vienna State Opera, Milan's La Scala; the Royal Opera, Covent Garden; and also the houses of Munich, Hamburg, Berlin, Paris, Zurich, Barcelona, as well as New York, Buenos Aires, Florence and Bologna.

She was awarded the Tagea Brandt Rejselegat in 1984. In 1992 Nielsen was appointed Knight of Dannebrog by Queen Margrethe II of Denmark.

She died in 2008 of cancer, aged 61.
