ING Taipei International Marathon is a series of "Taipei International Marathon" sponsored by ING Antai (a member of ING Group) from 2004. This marathon competition made great impacts on recruiting local volunteers from financial, academical, and governmental people, importing "ChampionChip" timer system for elite marathon runners, and setting up "Kids Running Group" and "Polices & Firefighters Group" from 2005.
Before the main competition in December, ING Antai held "ING Running Club" training courses at several countries and warming-up matches in Hualien, Kaohsiung, and Taichung. With those activities above, lots of elite runners in Taiwan rose up from several places, and it developed a good running fashions and practices in Taiwan.
Due to the bad traffic issue in Taiwan, lots of academic, foreigners, and media criticized this issue at 2004. ING Antai ever attempted to quit the sponsoring, but finally canceled this idea with a coordination between Chinese Taipei Road Running Association and Taipei City Government who promised for a good traffic quality to participants at December 15, 2006. With the promise, ING Antai decided to sponsor this marathon to 2009. After the great success at 2006, this competition was finally nominated to "Taiwan Sports Elite Awards" this year.
