User talk:Information Habitat
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Hi. It seems that you're adding a lot of content, most of it to your user pages. This is an encyclopedia project, not a webhost. We are not here to support "grass roots" initiatives of any sort, or allow people to advertise their ideas. Hence pages like Internet community congress are not appropriate, unless you want to write a neutral article that's about the congress.
You may want to reconsider whether this is the place for the projects you're undertaking. Isomorphic 19:05, 31 Mar 2004 (UTC)
You are also very welcome to stay! But I would also suggest that you try to follow established guidelines that you may find through the Wikipedia:Community Portal --Dittaeva 17:57, 6 Apr 2004 (UTC)
I suggest that you move any disputed User:Information Habitat pages from Wikipedia to either this Wikibooks project or to this meta-wiki location. I think your work is interesting and needs to be protected from reactionary Wikipedia zealots who can see no value in weeds. JWSchmidt 13:39, 9 Apr 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Minor edits
I noticed your work on the Earth Summit page. Please do not mark as minor edits which are not minor, as defined under Wikipedia:Minor edit and Wikipedia talk:Minor edit. --Lowellian 19:35, Apr 14, 2004 (UTC)
[edit] Comments left in my sandbox
G'day Robert
I'd prefer to talk on my normal talk page, that's what it's there for, please see my more detailed reply there. Andrewa 13:49, 19 Apr 2004 (UTC)
A few more comments:
Yes, your additions to Florence Nightingale are fascinating, I'd already looked at them.
When the article quietens down I might have a look at it myself, because while it's full of good stuff it's not IMO a good article. The first thing I'd do is remove the heading from the preamble. Make it a splash if you like, but not a heading. This will reposition the table of contents to below the introductory paragraph, which will make the whole article a lot more approachable to the reader.
But the whole article needs a refactor IMO. It just doesn't read well. I noted before many spelling and grammar mistakes... and now I can't find any of them!
So far as our talking towards a win/win on the matter of hosting for your Information Habitat project, I'm heavily in favour. Please, talk to me.
One thing you might also consider doing is to list all the user subpages that you no longer use for speedy delete. This is the normal way of removing your own unused pages. It would be best to log on under the owning user id to make this request.
I think all the subpages of user: Information-Habitat are in this category, and there may be others. If you think you may have forgotten any, ask for an SQL query to be run to find them all, but they are probably already listed on one of the many discussion pages. The user page itself should stay, perhaps as a redirect, so that anyone looking at edits you have made under this name can find your current user page. That would be a good start IMO. [edit] Interesting link?
This may be old news to you, but I ran across this page at c2.com and it seemed to reflect a lot of your directions. Have a look and follow some of the links from the top section in particular, it might save you reinventing the wheel. Andrewa 17:27, 5 May 2004 (UTC)
