[edit] Eye colour

I have almost the same eye color as you have! User:Drogo 19:16. March 18, 2006 (UTC)

Hi! I thought you looked Eastern european on you pic, so I guess I was almost right there As for myself, I am Swedish-Norwegian, with one parent from each country. I will try to take a decent picture of my eyes as soon as possible User:Drogo 22:47. March 22, 2006 (UTC)

I'm sorry about the Eastern european thing, but Swedes tend to think that everything that is east of Sweden (with exception of Finland) is Eastern european, even Estonia, which has much more connections to Finland than it has to Latvia and Lithuania, for example. Although people don't really regard Greece as Eastern european either. On your pic I thought you looked like a _central_ european, Hungarian, Ukrainian or a country nearby. Please, enlighten me about this theory about the finnic people User:Drogo 11:14. March 22, 2006 (UTC)

Hello, I'm sorry about the delay, I'll try to get a pictire of my eyes. Do you have any tips on good ways to take pics of them? (it's quite difficult) User:Drogo 22:48 April 11, 2006 (UTC)

At last, here are my eyes. Not the best quality, though. http://img92.imageshack.us/my.php?image=gon12fi.jpg The colours might not be exactly true to reality. User:Drogo 15:48 April 30, 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Richard Nixon Parkway

No problem with the links. I also made Category:Southern California Unsigned Freeways a subcat of Category:Southern California freeways. Also, looking at your user page, instead of quoting the BJAODN directly, why not a link like this? Much cleaner, especially if you start to note a number of funny ones. Look at my page if you want; I have a number of links there. --Ricky81682 (talk) 08:34, May 11, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] substubs

I noticed that you created the article Sepulveda Blvd. (Unsigned Freeway) and tagged it as a substub. The substub template recently failed a vote at WP:TFD and has been deleted. The article you created has been sorted, but when time comes for you to create another article please use either {{stub}} or an approriate category specific stub template. --Allen3 talk 11:11, May 18, 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Epiclesis

In Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern-rite Catholic churches, and formerly in Latin-rite (i.e., Western) Catholic churches,

You deleted the words "formerly in", saying you were correcting inaccurate information. But the sentence as you left it was absurd. It said:

In Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern-rite Catholic churches, and Latin-rite (i.e., Western) Catholic churches,

I changed it so that it says

In Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, Eastern-rite Catholic and Roman Catholic churches,

(understanding the term Roman Catholic broadly as meaning not just Latin-rite Catholics, but all churches in full communion with the Vatican). Michael Hardy 00:41, 11 Jun 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Epiclesis

I noticed your correction in the article epiclesis. I was obviously a bit careless in leaving the sentence as it was after removing the incorrect information. Thank you for correcting my oversight.

I am concerned, though, by the message you left on my talk page. I am not sure I would use that particular wording to express myself. In particular, you said:

You deleted the words "formerly in", saying you were correcting inaccurate information. But the sentence as you left it was absurd.

Without the "formerly in" clause, the sentence was awkward, but not unintellig

ible. "Absurd" implies that the sentence made no sense, which is not true. Absurd can also be read as an derogatory term.

I was more concerned with the edit summary. You said, "(Someone's way of "correcting inaccurate information" (see the edit history) is absurd.)"

Was this really necessary? It would have been more helpful if you had described what you actually did, instead of belittling the previous editor for what was actually a simple mistake, probably caused more by lack of sleep than anything else. As it stands, your edit summary helps no one, and is, in my opinion, not the most civil way to communicate information—in fact, it communicates no useful information at all.

I would like to point out from the Wikipedia Edit Summary:

Avoid using a "judgmental tone in edit comments" as per Wikipedia:Civility#Examples. Examples include "fixed sloppy spelling", "snipped rambling crap".

I would also point out that your assumption (to change "Latin-Rite Catholic" to "Roman Catholic" thinking that it would include all other churches in communion with Rome) is incorrect. There is a reason for separating Eastern-Rite Catholic from Latin-Rite Catholic. Properly speaking, ER Catholics are not Roman Catholics at all. They are Ruthenian Catholics, Melkite Catholics, Chaldean Catholics, etc. Although "Roman Catholic," as is commonly used in the U.S.A. can refer to all churches in communion with Rome, this is not proper usage; it is perceived by many in the Eastern Catholic communities as at least marginally offensive, thus better avoided. The sentence as you left it did not quite make sense, though the grammar was improved.

Would you reconsider how you word your commentary? I hesitate to bring this up at all, but this doesn't seem to be the first time that this issue has come up. Examples are plentiful on this page, not to mention the Bureaucrat vote page. The reason I bring this up is because of a suggestion made on the Wikipedia page on dealing with conflicts.

[edit] Capitalisation

Hi InFairness, good of you for creating those articles on abnormal respiration. I've renamed the category you created for them to Category:Abnormal respiration, as naming conventions indicate that articles should preferentially be titled in lowercase unless a proper name is involved. [edit] New User:Instrument category

I have been contemplating a didg-0 template perhaps now I will make one. Creating the other new templates wont be a problem. I'm a bit lost as to what 'codes' or abbreviation to use for each instrument, any ideas? They must not conflict with any of the language codes listed here. If we follow the current 'convention' they should only be three or four letters long but if they need to be a bit longer the font size can be reduced so it will fit, if you look at the voc-1 box on my user page you will see what happens when isn't reduced. I will be away for the next few days when I get back, prob Sunday, I will go ahead and create them.—Rooivalk 11:50, 8 December 2005 (UTC)

I don't know what purpose you thought that User:Clavichord, User:Clavichord-1, etc. served. They were invalid and I have deleted them. -- RHaworth 06:36, 20 December 2005 (UTC)

[edit] Coat of arms of Slovakia

Szervusz! :) I think your edits to the Coat of arms of Slovakia article were good, but it will take some time to make Juro accept them; he (...how should I put it in a NPOV way...) does not seem to be a person who has a high opinion on Hungarians. I'll try to keep an eye on the article. Alensha 13:14, 5 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Sáránd

Well, for a guess it wasn't bad :) I use the data from the website of the Central Statistics Office of Hungary for the town articles (http://helynevtar.ksh.hu), it has the data from the 2001 census. (it's not always up-to-date but the best I can find.) Alensha 18:04, 6 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Slovak noble families

Hi and thank you for your edits on Slovak articles. I've noticed that you had a run-in with User:Juro. I would not pay too much attention to his confrontational approach. He seems to be working in the field and appears to be quite knowledgeable and did an incredible amount of work on Wikipedia. His German appears to be excellent and I would suggest looking at the German version of the articles in question for clarification, whenever there is some doubt about their neutrality. Other than that I'd be happy to help with copyediting and/or brokering some sort of a compromise.

While at it, I couldn't help noticing this statement: "Juhás', which is Hungarian for "shepherd" is the second most common last name among modern Slovaks." I'm curious what the source would be for this. Also, you are probably aware that there are unfortunately some ethnic tensions between Slovaks and Hungarians, and that this could be potentially misinterpreted. Unless it's properly sourced of course. Best, 67.180.197.16 04:25, 7 February 2006 (UTC)

Hm, the tension is not so great as it seems from the writings of Juro :) He seems to be very allergic on every Hungarian-related topic and finds relation even at places they do not egsists. Looks like a lighter paranoia to me, had probably very bad experience with someone from the Hungarian minority in Slovakia. Can not be helped, has very strong preconceptions and is not able to overcome them. - Serinde 11:32, 9 February 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Addding POV

Stop whitewashing Hungarian issues (for example, removing information about the Holocaust in Transylvania) and adding POV (yes, "rabid romanianization" is POV). http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Satu_Mare&diff=prev&oldid=42091301 bogdan 21:01, 3 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: Eye image

Hey inFairness,

I didn't mean to revert what you had done just for the heck of it. I feel that the image was of fairly good quality, but I do agree with you that the caption was a bit POVish. Perhaps it would be okay to keep the image up but change the text? Not that I feel strongly one way or another, it's just that I'm not inclined to delete a picture which someone else had uploaded. If you think it's best without the image then that's fine by me. --Sean WI 18:33, 10 March 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Re: My Eye Picture

In response to your inquiry relating to the green eyes picture on the Eye Color page:

No, I didn't alter the image for the green eyes picture. The brassiness in my hair is due to the fact that I swim a lot in the summer and this was taken toward the end of it. Here is the whole picture of my face, as you requested.

[edit] Re: Awful articles

Hi,

I'm sorry but this subject is totally outside my expertise; but maybe other Hungarian editors (User:Zello for example) could help. We're also trying to breathe some life into Wikipedia:Hungarian Wikipedians' notice board so that things like this can be posted there. – Alensha  11:41, 6 June 2006 (UTC)

[edit] Católicos por la Raza

I was going with what my sources said. I apologize if my negligence in verifying the claims I reported offended you in any way. I assure you it was not intentional (WP:AGF). If you'll notice, I did not begin the article, but merely added to it. When I write or take credit for an article, I try to do as much doublechecking as possible. I regret that I don't do the same for all the contributions I make. You may also notice that CPLR is listed as an article in need of expansion under "tasks" at WikiProject Mexican-Americans. I listed it there because I realize that it was deficient. Unfortunately, I never got back to it. I thank you for your help in improving the article.--Rockero 21:27, 2 September 2006 (UTC)

Image Copyright problem

Thank you for uploading Image:9-VIIII-IX-HermiteJ.jpg. However, it currently is missing information on its copyright status. Wikipedia takes copyright very seriously. It may be deleted soon, unless we can determine the license and the source of the image. If you know this information, then you can add a copyright tag to the image description page.

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask them at the media copyright questions page. Thanks again for your cooperation. NOTE: once you correct this, please remove the tag from the image's page. STBotI 07:48, 15 August 2007 (UTC)

[edit] North Magnetic Pole

I've added a few links to the section so people can look it up. Some were to Wikitonary. The phrase "The residuals form the nondipole field." is very odd and not clear. There are several templates to use. Template:Clarifyme works for a word or sentence, Template:Cleanup-jargon is good for a section and there may be others at Wikipedia:Template messages/Cleanup. It might be a good idea to dump the section on the North into South Magnetic Pole and replace the short section. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 23:22, 21 September 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Wyoming Panhandle and Colorado bootheel

Hi InFairness,

Can I ask you why you created these articles? They are not encyclopedic in any way, as they are about areas of the U.S. which do not exist. As such, they're nonsense articles, and I've deleted them per WP:CSD G1: Patent nonsense and gibberish, an unsalvageably incoherent page with no meaningful content. I haven't gone through your other contributions, but what other articles on non-existent areas have you been creating? Firsfron of Ronchester 02:18, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Go through my other contributions if you've nothing better to do. I can't believe that they were in existence as long as they were. I'm not going to answer your question, because the information is available to you and because I don't like your tone. InFairness 04:20, 6 November 2007 (UTC)
I don't know what "tone" you think I have, but creating hoax articles is frowned upon here. I'm going to take this to WP:AN/I. Firsfron of Ronchester 06:11, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

Please do not create hoaxes. Please do not attempt to put misinformation into Wikipedia to test our ability to detect and remove it. This has been done before, with varying results. Most hoaxes are marked for deletion within a few hours after they are created. Some Wikipedians suspect that the majority of hoaxes here are attempts to test the system. Kindly — do not disrupt Wikipedia to illustrate a point. If you are interested in how accurate Wikipedia is, a more constructive test method is to try to find inaccurate statements that are already in Wikipedia, and then to check to see how long they have been in place and, if possible, correct them.

[edit] Blocked

You have been temporarily blocked from editing Wikipedia as a result of your disruptive edits. You are free to make constructive edits after the block has expired, but please note that vandalism (including page blanking or addition of random text), spam, deliberate misinformation, privacy violations, personal attacks; and repeated, blatant violations of our policies concerning neutral point of view and biographies of living persons will not be tolerated. Firsfron of Ronchester 07:29, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I believe that this blocking is both unecessary and an abuse. Aside from the fact that you didn't like what I wrote in your talk page, and another administrator thought you should drop it, you really have no good reason for blocking other than to show me "who's in charge". I have not made any disruptive edits since those hoax articles, quite the contrary, and you have still blocked me. If you were going to block me for making those articles, then why didn't you do that at the time you discovered them? You only did it after our conversations. Obviously, the blocking has nothing to do with maintaining the guidelines of Wikipedia. It is clear to me that you are doing this as a demonstration of your power. I am going to take this to Requests for comment/Example admin. InFairness 07:48, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

I blocked you because it's quite apparent that you have no remorse for creating the hoax articles, and there's nothing preventing you from doing it again. If, after I'd asked you why you'd created them, you'd given some reason why ("sorry, my younger sister made them" or something along those lines), I could understand. You've given no such explanation, and as a result, I am blocking this account. If you feel you should have every right to create fake articles at any time without explanation, then I invite you to take it up on RfC when your block expires. Blocks are used to prevent abuse to the encyclopedia. As you still have not explained your reasons for creating those articles, I am doing my best to prevent abuse to the encyclopedia. Best, Firsfron of Ronchester 07:56, 6 November 2007 (UTC)

This blocked user (block log | autoblocks | rangeblocks | unblock | contribs | deleted contribs) has asked to be unblocked, but an administrator has reviewed and declined this request. Other administrators may also review this block, but should not override the decision without good reason (see the blocking policy). Do not remove this unblock request while you are blocked.

Request reason: "Blocking came not from the actual offense but because he didn't like the response I wrote."

Decline reason: "So? You won't be disruptive for 24 hours. That's what blocking is for. — jpgordon∇∆∇∆ 08:02, 6 November 2007 (UTC)"

Please make any further unblock requests by using the {{unblock}} template. However, abuse of the template may result in your talk page being protected.

[edit] History of Maramureş

Hi, thank you for your message on my talk page. I was incative in WP for 2-3 weeks. This article was started by me very short after I became a WP user, at a time when i knew very little about properly wikifying and sourcing articles. As it is, it stands as a living monument of my inaptness at the time to bring it to a decent form. I was interested in the subject, but as I advanced and learned more stuff, the shear amount of work needed to finish it to a nice tale scared me away. Biruitorul kindly helped me in the wikification and copyeditting, but still my work was of too low quality, it needed much more attention and time. So, I got involved in other articles, and left it till more inspiration would come to me, or until other people would get interested in the subject.

The sources I used were ca. 99% googled (they are all in the article). As a result of having only googled sources, I got more info on some aspects, fewer on others. I knew something about the subject, but hardly 1/3 of what it is in the article now. And there isn't even half of what there should be! Last fall, I was able to find a book, which I found very useful - M. N. Tomi "Maramuresul istoric in date". Unfortunately, it is in Romanian, and I don't think it exists online (though we never know). Basically, the book, about 200 pages, lists things year by year with sources, and there are hundreds of them. Sometimes the author expresses his own opinion, but he does it in a very conspicuous way "... In my opinion, this fact is due to...", which is very easy to ignore. I have read most of it, but not all. I learned very interesting stuff, that is not even closely mentioned in the article. However, as you notice, to make a 5-page compression of a 200-page book is not a 2-3 days job...

If you are interested in the subject, I am very-very glad! Feel free to edit the article as you wish. Nothing will be lost, since we can always recover old stuff from "history". Just bear in mind one thing: the article as it is now has very detailed info about some aspects, very little about others, and practically none about thirds. Best regards, Dc76\talk 16:01, 11 April 2008 (UTC)
