- Seems alright. —dima/s-ko/ 02:37, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
- The term "settlement" by itself is too wide; I think it's incorrect to introduce "Селище"="settlement". Perhaps, we may define "Селище"="Rural-type settlement". But at this point, due to the lack of separate English terminology for "Село" and "Селище" we include both into "Villages". --MapLover 02:52, 10 September 2006 (UTC)
[edit] Proposed move
I propose to move this infobox to {{Infobox Ukrainian raion}}. This way, it would conform to the naming scheme of other infoboxes and will not be mutually confusing with {{Infobox Russian district}}.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 02:01, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Sure go ahead. I've been meaning to do it, but never got around to it... —dima/s-ko/ 02:02, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- OK, will do. I am, however, curious: why do you folks use "raion" instead of "district"? While the former is an English loanword, it's doubtful many people know what it means without having to look it up.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 04:25, 20 March 2007 (UTC)
- Thanks. We just use "raion" like we use "oblast".. Yes, people might not know what it means, but this is just how we came about to naming the oblast's divisions. If someone who doesn't know what "raion" means, they find out in the first sentence; we have the following wikitext: [[Baryshivskyi Raion]] ([[district|raion]]), which will explain what "raion" stands for... —dima/s-ko/
- From my personal experience, people most of the time just glance over words unfamiliar to them. As my English teacher used to say, "if you don't understand a word—skip it; the text will retain its meaning even without it" :); well, people do it all the time! The point is if an acceptable English equivalent is available, then why not use it? There are very good reasons to keep using "oblast", "krai", and "okrug" instead of overly generic "province", "territory", and "area", but that's not the case with "raion".
- Anyway, I'm just ranting here. Have it any way you want; you are the contributors to the Ukraine-related topics, after all.
- I'll move the infobox to its new home today.—Ëzhiki (Igels Hérissonovich Ïzhakoff-Amursky) • (yo?); 12:23, 21 March 2007 (UTC)
